( l - r ) Mark Myrie, Buju Banton - File
Carrying on his father's legacy, Buju Banton's son Mark Myrie has started producing under his own record label, Markus Records.
The 17-year-old former student of Meadowbrook High School, who goes by the name Markus, said he has been producing for four years but went professional with the craft a year ago.
"I've always had the love for music and I grew up around it ... Especially with my father and the situation, I decide to lift up the banner and continue the legacy," he told THE STAR.
Markus said his father, who is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States, partially influenced his decision to enter music.
"He influenced it 50 per cent because just by being around him and seeing how he does it, plus the success, it just attracted me from I was young. Apart from that, I have a natural love for music. In a sense, I want to lift up the banner and show dem seh things can still gwaan," he said, while reluctant to state whether or not he will be dabbling into recording songs of his own.
While his father was on bail in December, Markus said he got the opportunity to record a song with him that is called Lose Your Love. Since then, he also produced the 'Beating Stick' rhythm that features Gaza Beating Stick by Ryno (formerly Blak Ryno). He said he has also produced songs for DJ Sunshine, Lutan Fyah, KipRich and Calibre, as well as his artistes Humble Lion and Minando.
Currently completing an audio engineering course at Creative Production and Training Centre, Markus said he also plans to release another song with Ryno called Wine Me. In addition, he said he looks forward to working with every artiste in the industry as he does not plan to segregate himself
